We had a fantastic time with this retro camper van! It definitely has its quirks, but once you get used to it, its actually great fun to drive and surprisingly fuel-efficient. We were impressed by how roomy it felt inside much more spacious than expected and the bed was really comfortable, giving us a great nights sleep. We didnt use an electrical hook-up at all during our trip; instead, we relied on the solar power, which worked brilliantly for charging our devices and powering the lights. The gas burner cooker was easy to use and cooked everything we needed without any fuss. Overall, a charming and well-thought-out van with everything you need for a comfortable off-grid adventure. Perfect for those who enjoy something a little different and full of character!

We had a great time in this campervan. Once I got used to the gears it drove really smoothly. The handover was easy and Kenny gave lots of useful information.

The van broke down 45 mins after we collected it. We had to drive around all day to get a new battery fitted, go back to the owner and have a new fuse fitted. Then when we set off we realised it has no working speedometer and no break lights. When we got there we had no working fridge at all. The owner is very difficult to deal with and half way through our trip, deleted all of our messages on WhatsApp. Now over a week after we handed the keys back and he signed it off as all ok after the checks, he has now said we have damaged something. He is obviously upset about our complaints about all of the other problems.

The van is not as advertised.It comes to you dirty and musty. The fridge does not work on solar. Home comforts=0, you have to supply them all down to a plug for the sink. You want to fill the water tank - find your own hose. You want fresh chilled food and drink - buy your own ice and then mop up the carpet which will inevitably get soaked as it melts. You want to navigate or monitor your speed- use your own device because the speedo doesn't work and while you're at it buy your own phone holder or, as the owner suggests lean it against the reverse camera until it inevitable flies off whilst driving. Expect to get greasy as the owner expects daily oil, coolant and instrument checks with constant communication of the same but, don't worry he'll supply the oil and instruct you to fill it every 500 miles and then try to claim damages if it's overfilled on return. No need to worry about getting lost.This van is fitted with state of the art surveillance equipment to keep an eagle eye on your location and speed with courtesy text messages to inform you of any overspeeds above the owners set speed limit. You won't lose the keys either, with an air tag monitoring the keys movements outside of the van as well. Big brother is definitely along for the ride. Owner even tried to throw in an excess mileage charge at the pre hire check, sneaky right ? Buck his system and you can expect to get squeezed. Flexibility=0. He does know how to care for cars though as evidenced by his 2 shiney Porsche's in the driveway!

There was a change of plan in the van I rented due to a fault with the original one I booked. Some of the features were different but it was mostly the same. The van was tidy and clean enough inside though Kenny said had he known earlier that I would be using that one, he would have given it a deeper clean. I struggled to get hold of Kenny on one occasion when struggling with the gas ring, but signal was erratic and he had already told me he'd be away for part of my trip, so that was to be expected.

Very much enjoyed using Kenny's van this weekend, and it's encouraged us to buy one of our own. Everything was in working order as it should be, and it was clean and tidy inside. The van is old and so you should not expect it to be perfect internally nor externally, but it runs nicely, it starts up first time and was lots of fun to drive!

If you want a retro experience driving a classic VW Campervan then 34 year old Bilbo will certainly provide you with that. If, however, you prefer some 21stC driving essentials such as cruise control, air con and power steering then research other options.

Great little camper van and perfect for our needs. Unfortunately we picked the wettest weekend in July for our trip, but we were warm and cosy in the van. Kenny was great, took time to show us where everything was and how it worked. Pick up and drop was very easy and Kenny was very accommodating regarding our schedule. Would definitely hire again.
