1. Deeside Holiday Park

A couple of minutes’ stroll from the beautiful River Dee is family-friendly Deeside Holiday Park - the closest of our Aberdeen camping sites to the city centre. It’s in the Royal Deeside area, a favourite of Queen Victoria for its stunning landscapes of moors, mountains, rivers and forests. Get out and about to Aberdeen from here, or to highlights like Drum Castle, Dunnottar Castle, Stonehaven or canoeing or fishing on the River Dee.

Back at base, this is a highly comfortable and modern holiday park, with a wide range of facilities including family bathrooms, a playground, a shop and a launderette. Cafés and restaurants are in Peterculter, five minutes’ drive away

Silverbank Club Campsite is close to the River Dee, half a mile from the “gateway to Royal Deeside” at local town Banchory. This Aberdeen camping site is set in peaceful landscaped parkland close to many local walks and bike rides; pick up a free Sustrans map at reception to see the sights on two wheels.

By foot, it’s 2.5 miles from the park to the Bridge of Feugh to spot salmon leaping up the falls. The spotless site amenities include bathroom and shower blocks, disabled facilities, a laundry and gas sales. Barbecues (gas, electric and charcoal) are allowed.

3. Hillhead Caravan Park

Heading north from Deeside and Banchory is our third Aberdeen camping site, Hillhead Caravan Park. It’s just past must-see Castle Fraser, Garden & Estate (six miles) and is 14 miles from Aberdeen; it’s also an hour’s drive from Balmoral Castle through the landscapes of Deeside and Donside.

The park is in the heart of the Earl of Kintore estate, near the quiet village of Kintore and surrounded by forest walks. All pitches are hardstanding with electric hook-up; park facilities include a playground, shop and indoor washing-up area.

  • On Scotland's Castle Trail, just one mile off the A96 from Aberdeen to Inverness

4. Stonehaven Queen Elizabeth Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite

The second Caravan and Motorhome Club site on our Aberdeen camping roundup is at the pretty harbour town of Stonehaven, right on Stonehaven Bay. The town, shops and restaurants of Stonehaven Club Campsite are just a short walk away along the promenade and an art deco open-air Olympic size swimming pool is within walking distance outside of the site. On site, the excellent amenities include a family washroom, a wheelchair-accessible shower room, baby changing and a laundry. Barbecues are allowed.

5. Feughside Caravan Park

Our final Aberdeen camping site is Feughside Caravan Park, the furthest from the city at 45 minutes’ drive (23 miles), but very much worth the extra few minutes. Set between Aberdeen and the Cairngorms National Park, Feughside is a multi-award family-run site in Royal Deeside, in the valley formed by the Feugh.

It’s a carefully managed wildlife haven and David Bellamy Gold Award holder, surrounded by peaceful scenery with views of Clachnaben hill to the south. Settle down here for spectacular surroundings, well-kept amenities and a friendly family vibe.

  • Small, family-run caravan park in the Feugh valley

  • Only a few minutes’ walk from marked forestry trails at the Shooting Greens

  • Pony trekking and horse riding available nearby

  • 15 minutes’ drive from both Banchory and Arboyne
