Revealed: England’s Best Analogue Escape Destinations for 2026

Camplify Team

Get closer to nature with an RV holiday to one of the top three counties for off-grid exploration: Devon, Cumbria, or Yorkshire.

If you’ve ever dreamed of escaping the constant ping of notifications and the glow of your phone screen, 2026 might be your year to unplug with an analogue escape: a screen-free break that brings you closer to nature.

A campervan road trip is the perfect way to go analogue. It’s a rare chance to slow down your pace, take in the scenery, and explore off the beaten track. But your choice of destination is just as important; that’s where the Camplify UK Analogue Escape Index comes in.

The definitive top ten list of off-grid escapes is reminiscent of the screen-free holidays many haven’t experienced since childhood – and Devon, Cumbria, and Yorkshire take the top three spots.

So whether getting off-grid is your forte or you’re making your first foray into analogue escapism, use our Analogue Escape Index to take your pick of the very best England has to offer.

Top Analogue Escapes by region

Devon takes the top spot as this year’s best screen-free staycation destination, after careful assessment by our travel experts.

Each destination was ranked based on a number of analogue factors, including phone reception ‘not-spots’ (areas with little to no signal), the number of campsites without electricity, WiFi or internet access, and the population density

But peace and quiet and a digital detox aren’t the only things that make an analogue escape. The index also takes into account each area’s suitability for good old-fashioned outdoor activities like stargazing, hiking, and cultural exploration, by assessing the levels of light pollution, and number of National Trust properties, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs), and National Parks.

From the wild moorlands of Yorkshire to the prehistoric cliffs of the South Coast, England boasts some of the world’s most stunning locations to lose yourself in – it can be hard to decide where to start.

Now, the Camplify Analogue Escape Index puts off-grid escape inspiration at your fingertips.

Top 10 Analogue Escapes:

  1. Devon, South West

  2. Cumbria, North West

  3. Yorkshire, North East

  4. Cornwall, South West

  5. Somerset, South West

  6. Wiltshire, South West

  7. Dorset, South West

  8. Northumberland, North East

  9. Gloucestershire, South West

  10. East Sussex, South East

According to the rankings, the South West of England is home to the most counties ideal for an analogue escape. As well as taking the top spot with Devon, the region is home to Cornwall’s stunning beaches and coves, Somerset’s Cheddar Gorge, Wiltshire’s prehistoric sites, Dorset’s Jurassic coast, and the picturesque Cotswolds of Gloucestershire.

It’s clear to see why the northern counties of Cumbria, Yorkshire and Northumberland made it into the top 10 too – between them, they boast towering fells and glacial lakes, unique limestone landscapes and starry skies, and rugged coastlines seeped in history.

The winners: Top analogue escapes

1st Place: Devon, South West of England

Scoring highest overall, Devon is the ultimate off-grid paradise thanks to its rich mix of National Trust sites, National Parks, and breathtaking Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

From the dramatic cliffs of the Jurassic Coast to the vast, moorland expanses of Dartmoor National Park, exploring Devon by campervan makes it easy to slow down the pace.

Hike the South West Coast Path, wild swim in hidden Dartmoor rivers, or explore literary landmarks like Agatha Christie’s Greenway. As the day ends, gather around your campervan for supper under a sky glittering with stars – no screens required.

2nd Place: Cumbria, North West of England

Home to the serene corners of the Lake District, Cumbria is ideal for those seeking solitude.

Let sunrise over Ambleside or Grasmere start your morning off right, before taking on one of the challenging Wainwright Fell hikes. Here, low light pollution and patchy mobile signals mean stargazing by a still lake or cooking by the van become nightly rituals, and a chance to reconnect with nature.

3rd Place: Yorkshire, North East of England

From the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales to the rugged beauty of the North York Moors, Yorkshire offers endless off-grid charm, set amongst drystone walls and remote villages.

Cycle along the Swale Trail, hike to Malham Cove, or wander across Ilkley Moor, before taking refuge amongst the heather at one of many cosy, non-electric campsites.
