Frequently asked questions

Is a campervan holiday really as relaxing as everyone says?

In a word: yes. A campervan holiday means total freedom — no fixed hotel bookings, no rigid itineraries. Wake up by the sea, in the countryside or beside a mountain lake. With a fully equipped campervan from Camplify, you have everything you need on board: kitchen, bed, sometimes even a shower. And because you collect directly from the owner, you get personal tips and a vehicle prepared with care.

How much does it cost to hire a campervan in Manchester?

Prices vary by season and vehicle type. On Camplify, you'll find campervans from around £60 per night and motorhomes from around £80 per night. A 12% booking fee (plus VAT) and an owner service fee (typically around £25) are added per booking. Because you're hiring from private owners, you'll often find better value than traditional hire companies.

What driving licence do I need for a campervan?

You'll need a full, valid UK driving licence held for at least 2 years. Category B covers most campervans and motorhomes up to 3,500 kg; larger motorhomes may require C1. Drivers must be aged 25–75. Camplify runs a DVLA check on every hirer before the van goes out on hire.

How does collection work?

Collection is directly from the owner — usually at their home. You'll receive the exact address before the booking, so you can plan whether to arrive by public transport, taxi or your own car. Bring your driving licence to the handover. The owner will walk you through the vehicle and complete a pre-hire checklist together.

Can I take the campervan abroad?

Camplify Flex cover extends to EU countries plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. You'll need a VE103 certificate (requested by the owner) and a motor insurance certificate. Check with the owner, arrange your own ferry or Channel Tunnel crossing and make sure the vehicle's tax and MOT are up to date.

What's included in the hire?

Every Camplify booking includes Damage Protection Cover and 24/7 RAC breakdown assistance. Most owners also include bedding, kitchen equipment and camping chairs — check the listing for full details. Fuel, tolls, campsite fees and mileage over 1,000 miles (charged at 45p per mile) are your responsibility.

Can I bring my dog?

Many owners welcome pets — look for the pet-friendly filter when searching. If it's not mentioned, simply message the owner to ask. Some may charge a small cleaning fee.

Campervan, motorhome or caravan — which is right for me?

Campervans are compact and easy to drive — perfect for couples or weekend escapes. Motorhomes offer more space with separate sleeping, cooking and sometimes shower areas — ideal for families. Caravans give you a cosy home-from-home that stays put while you explore by car.

How does booking work on Camplify?

Search for a location and dates, then send a booking request to the owner. Once approved, you pay 25 % to secure the booking — the balance is taken automatically 30 days before your trip (or immediately if you book within 30 days). Arrange collection details through the Camplify messaging system.

What happens if the campervan breaks down?

Every booking includes 24/7 RAC breakdown assistance. Call 0333 202 1872 and quote reference CAMP01 — RAC will arrange roadside recovery at no cost to you. Let the owner know too.

Can someone else drive too?

Yes — additional drivers no longer need a separate Camplify account. They must meet the insurer's eligibility requirements and bring a valid driving licence to the handover. Check the Flex insurance eligibility page for details.

How does insurance work?

Damage Protection Cover is included with every Camplify booking. The standard excess ranges from £500 to £2,000 on Flex bookings, but you can reduce it with a Silver or Gold excess package at checkout.

Where exactly do I pick up the campervan in Manchester?

Collection is directly from the owner — usually at their home in Manchester. You'll receive the exact address before the booking so you can plan whether to arrive by public transport, taxi or your own car.

How quickly can I reach my destination from Manchester?

From Manchester you can reach stunning destinations: in the Peak District ca. 1h, in the Lake District ca. 1.5h, in the Yorkshire Dales ca. 1.5h, in Snowdonia ca. 2h.

Explore Manchester — before your adventure begins

Picking up your campervan in Manchester? Take a moment to explore the city first. Before you hit the road, a last wander is well worth it — Manchester has plenty to offer to build the excitement for the journey ahead.

The Manchester vibe

Manchester carries its industrial heritage with a swagger that shows in its repurposed cotton mills and red-brick warehouses. The Northern Quarter, centred on Oldham Street and Stevenson Square, is packed with record shops like Piccadilly Records, vintage stores, and street art that changes monthly. HOME on First Street combines theatre, cinema, and gallery space in a building that anchors the city's contemporary arts scene. Ancoats, once a mill district and now a conservation area, has kept its industrial bones while filling its arches with restaurants and creative studios. The Manchester Art Gallery on Mosley Street, free and under-visited, holds pre-Raphaelite paintings and contemporary work in equal measure. There is plenty to absorb before you pick up your campervan and head towards the Peak District.

Local food and markets

The Arndale Market in the city centre is Manchester's everyday food market, with butchers, fishmongers, and greengrocers that have served the city for generations. Mackie Mayor, a restored market hall in the Northern Quarter, brings together street food traders under a Grade II listed iron and glass roof. Ancoats has become a proper food neighbourhood, with Rudy's Neapolitan Pizza, Erst, and Pollen bakery drawing people across town. For stocking up your motorhome, Levenshulme Market runs every Saturday along the A6 with local producers, and the Asian supermarkets along Wilmslow Road in Rusholme, heart of the Curry Mile, stock ingredients that will make your campervan meals far more interesting than the usual offerings.

Parks and green spaces

Heaton Park in the north covers 600 acres and includes a boating lake, an animal farm, and an 18th-century hall, making it one of the largest municipal parks in Europe. Fletcher Moss Park and Botanical Garden in Didsbury borders the River Mersey and has an alpine garden that is particularly good in spring. The Fallowfield Loop, a disused railway line converted into a cycling and walking path, connects Chorlton to Fairfield through some of the city's greenest corridors. Dunham Massey, a National Trust estate in nearby Altrincham, offers deer park walks and a working mill. The proximity of the Peak District means that within 30 minutes of leaving Manchester in your campervan, you can be on open moorland.
