Family enjoys camping holiday near a picturesque lake, tents pitched amongst the trees.

The Easter bunny has had enough home visits over the years, so why not hop on the road for an Easter getaway and take your loved ones somewhere new in the UK?

Take your pick of types of fresh air whether that’s the sea breeze, mountain lushness, or lakeside chill, we have all the recommendations and more for your Easter camping holiday.

6 Easter holidays to experience in the UK

1. Search for Nessie

Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness.

Pack your hiking boots and head north to discover the moody Highlands of Scotland where folklore like the loch ness monster originates. Perfect for families, couples, friends, and solo adventures, the Highlands are full of winding trails and famous for beautiful foggy mountain vistas.

Harry Potter fanatics will love the region for its famous film scenes and a train ride on the iconic Jacobite Express Steam Train is a must. Explore the Cairngorms, the UK’s largest National Park, and an incredible place to cycle, play golf, and even bungee jump.

Stay in Nessie’s hometown at Loch Ness Shores campground (a camping and caravan club membership is necessary) which features powered and non-powered sites, a shop, wi-fi, and more. Grannie’s Heilan’ Hame Holiday Park is a family-friendly spot located on the beach with an indoor pool, playground, and restaurant. Sleep in the forest at Glenmore campsite in Aviemore for a relaxing and refreshing Easter weekend.

2. Escape to the Lake District

Hike Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England.

Another scenic getaway in the northern part of the country is the incredible Lake District. Home to numerous stunning glacial ribbon lakes and walking tracks, it’s also populated with charming English inns and historic pubs.

Hire bicycles to hop around Lake District National Park and fawn over the dense woodlands amongst the mountains. Avid hikers can attempt Scafell Pike, the tallest mountain in England. Many lakes offer scenic boat cruises or try out kayaking or paddle boarding for an unforgettable Easter holiday weekend.

Camping in the Lakes District is a must with starry night skies and peaceful nature settings. Pitch up in the national park under the Langdale Pikes at Great Langdale campsite. Wake up to views of Blencathra from Setmabanning Caravan Park. Ullswater Holiday Park is a great family-friendly option with nearby walking paths and access to the lake.

3. Surf on the South Coast in Cornwall & Newquay

Brave the surf at Newquay.

Spend Easter seaside with a surfing holiday in Cornwall. Drive, train or bus to this southern peninsula and enjoy the UK’s best beaches. Beginners can book surf lessons in Newquay, a popular beach town known for big surf. Fistral and Watergate Bay Beaches are picturesque spots for a day in the sand.

If the weather isn’t on your side or you need a break from the waves, head to Blue Reef Aquarium or Eden Project, home to the world’s largest indoor rainforest.

A mix of camping sites are scattered across the peninsula. Sleep south of Newquay at Deep Meadows Campsite which has an expansive grassy field with basic amenities. Near the Cornwall Coastal Footpath on the eastern side, Treveague campsite is a dog-friendly campground with powered hook-ups and beach access.

4. Explore the culture and art scene in Brighton

Grab some fish and chips on Brighton Palace Pier.

Another coastal town worth visiting this Easter is Brighton. Just two hours south of London, this cultured city has something for everyone.

Cycle along the coast or grab one of the bike shares to get around the city. Find quirky attractions like Paradox Place, a house of illusions and wonders, and hop around town dining out at a number of trendy eateries. Fish and chips are a must at the Brighton Palace Pier and grab a 360 view from the i360 tower.

Wake up to actual bunnies hopping around at Chalky Downs campsite. Not many campgrounds can boast views like this and with the national park and beaches within reach, it's a great base for your adventures in the nearby town. More options are available down the coast near Seaford such as Buckle Holiday Park and Sunnyside Caravan Park, both located on the beach with basic amenities.

5. Hike around Snowdonia, Gwynedd & Conwy

Views across the Miners Trail in Snowdonia National Park.

Thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies need to escape to Snowdonia in North Wales this Easter holiday. On top of epic mountain views and plenty of nature to explore, it’s overflowing with all things adventure such as surfing, zip-lining, and even underground trampolining.

Soak in a bit of history at medieval castles like Conway and Penrhyn and on a clear night, make sure to step outside and look up as the park is a Dark Sky Reserve. Book ahead to experience the Snowdon Railway, a truly unique train ride through the Welsh countryside.

Every campground in the region raves about their Snowdonia views including Dolgam campsite, a go-to spot for walkers and mountain climbers with space for tents, campervans, and motorhomes. Camp riverside at the grassy Llyn Gwynant campsite, a unique spot with its own pizzeria on site. Set up at Snowdonia Parc campsite and enjoy real ale from their microbrewery pub.

6. Hop around Yorkshire

Take the kids for a splash at Filey.

Take a trip to Yorkshire, spend your holiday in one of its historic cities, or cruise through a couple to make the most out of your time. The Peak District is known for its lush green hills with tucked-away waterfalls, trails, and caves. The old fishing village, Filey, offers dramatic coastal views and quaint shops and pubs.

Just north of Filey, lies Scarborough, the country’s original seaside resort. If you’re travelling with kids, they’ll love the penny arcades and Sea Life centre, plus the city’s newest attraction, the Alpamare Water Park which features waterslides, a wave pool, and even a spa for Mum.

If you’re travelling on the east coast of Yorkshire, check out the Paddock Campsite and expect basic amenities with rolling hill views. The family-friendly Arosa Caravan and Camping Site have modern facilities, an onsite bar, and cafe, plus play areas for the kids.
