John & Sarah – Going The Extra Mile For Camplify Hirers

We caught up with Camplify Owners John & Sarah, owners of ‘TheSea’ to find out what really makes a trip to England’s South western peninsula one of dreams. We really wanted to find out how hiring a van from expert private owners like John & Sarah can give hirers that extra special touch on a much needed and anticipated holiday in the UK. We certainly think their attention to detail and care for their guests make for a truly unique and memorable experience for anyone wanting to experience the van life and the joys of camping in this part of the world.
Find out just how John & Sarah give their attention and invaluable advice to their hirer’s for an unforgettable adventure…
For hirers that have never visited your area before, what would the PERFECT road trip look like in ‘TheSea’?
“The perfect road trip would start with removing any stress or trouble. Every hirer can leave their car with us on our gated driveway, while they enjoy our motorhome. Everything is included, so no need to worry about packing bedding or cutlery. Even tea, coffee, milk and homemade scones with jam and cream are included to get you off to the perfect Cornish start!
Another advantage is we have converted our AutoRoller 600 from a six berth, to four adults, or, two adults & three children configuration. This provides the benefit of extra space and comfort, while still retaining six seat belts if required. In addition, the beds are fixed in place so no need to fold up or pack away before you eat, leaving you with a table and seating, kitchen area with hob, oven, fridge, freezer, and bathroom with shower and toilet. We also provide a bike rack, awning, and outside table and chairs at no extra cost.
Once up and running, Cornwall has so much to see and do, but sometimes it's nice to park up and enjoy your location. However, it would be a shame to miss out on many of the fantastic places to visit. Of course, there are many wonderful beaches and the motorhome is perfect for arriving early and beating the crowds. At the far end of the county is Sennen Cove with its glorious beach, wonderful views and top class food via the locally renowned restaurant and pub. Sennen is also located close to Lands End and Porthcurno Beach, both of which are world famous for their stunning views and crystal clear water.
Moving back up the county Holywell Bay is another beach with easy parking that has become so famous for its role in the Poldark TV series and a large campsite overlooking the beach. Moving further up the county we would suggest another popular attraction called the Camel Trail. An 18 mile largely traffic free, surfaced and virtually level bike trail which provides access to the countryside along a disused railway line. Padstow to Wadebridge is a 5.5-mile ride and is a favourite for those who want an easy cycle, eat some fish and chips at Rick Stiens, or eat an ice cream and then cycle back.
To finish, we would recommend visiting the Eden project to explore the largest indoor rainforest in the world and enjoy special events such as the invisible world’s exhibition or ride the Skywire, England's longest zip wire.
All of these locations have fantastic campsites nearby so that you can enjoy them at your leisure and relax in comfort (with a bottle of wine from the fridge) when you are finished.”
Since you technically run a van hire business, do hirers still receive the personal touch of a “peer to peer” hiring experience when they hire your vans?
"Absolutely! We love going the extra mile, and small things like tea, coffee and homemade scones with jam and cream are firm favourites with our hires. Of course, we also make sure they are 100% confident in using our motorhome before they leave. So we give access to an online guide the moment the booking is confirmed, show them how to use everything during the handover process, and provide a copy of the paper-based manual. All this makes sure they can get on with the important business of enjoying themselves and not worrying about how to use the motorhome.
Cornwall is such a fantastic place with lots to see and do, a little bit of local knowledge goes a long way, and we love meeting all of our hirers and advise them on the best places to see and what to avoid.”
Are you looking to expand your hiring business or are you happy with just one vehicle?
“Sarah and I are enjoying the peer to peer approach. I tend to focus on the paperwork and keeping the website up to date, and Sarah manages the meet and greets. The process is made so easy by Camplify who take care of the deposit, insurance and drivers checks it allows us to focus on making sure our motorhome is perfect for each and every hirer. Because we enjoy working with Camplify, meeting excited hirers (especially families with small children, who literally can't stop smiling the moment they see the top double bed!). We are looking at what the next step is. We have been talking about another small motorhome or managing other people’s motorhomes, but we are still enjoying what we are doing now and taking it slowly and getting more great reviews from happy hirers.”
