1. Penrith – Lowther Holiday Park

The first of our motorhome campsites in the Lake District is at Penrith, on the very northeastern tip of the National Park. Lowther is a five-star family-friendly holiday park covering 50 woodland acres of the Lowther Estate on the banks of the River Lowther. Its first-rate facilities and commitment to wildlife has seen it pick up several awards, including a David Bellamy Gold and a 5 star Visit England Holiday Park award.

Pooley Bridge, the historic on the upper edge of Ullswater, is five miles away.

2. Derwentwater and Keswick – Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park

The meolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle, within walking distance of Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park.

Heading west from Penrith, the Lake District destination of Castlerigg is best known for the Castlerigg Stone Circle. Under two miles from the stone circle to the northeast and the town and museum of Keswick to the west is Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park, a quiet family site with spectacular views of surrounding mountains and nearby lakes Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. Motorhome pitches are on hardstanding, most also with great views.

3. Keswick – Burns Farm Caravans, Camping and Glamping

Also at Castlerigg and right by the Castlerigg Stone Circle is another top Keswick campsite at Burns Farm, set in the beautiful green valley of St-Johns-in-the-Vale. This is a family-run and highly eco-conscious campsite on a quiet working farm, three miles from Keswick town and four miles from Derwentwater. Motorhome pitches are hardstanding and fully serviced, set in the two touring areas of Low Rigg and High Rigg fields.

One of our favourite motorhome campsites in the Lake District is in Wasdale on the western edge of the National Park, close to the Irish Sea coast. Church Stile Farm is also close to Wastwater (the deepest lake in England), a scenic 3.5-mile lakeside walk from the National Trust cottage at Bowerdale Farm, and five miles from Scafell Pike. In the other direction, Seascale Beach is about 10 minutes’ drive away. And even better, a riverside café, farm shop and pub are all within five minutes' walk.

Exploring the Lake District doesn’t come much easier than this – a five-star campsite close to the world-famous Lakes landmark of Windermere. Park Cliffe Camping and Caravan Estate is just a few minutes’ stroll from the eastern shore of England’s biggest lake, brilliantly placed for walking trails, steamer cruises, boating and the stunning ferry ride from Bowness-on-Windermere to Ambleside.
