1. Portree Campsite

As the island’s largest settlement, Portree is an ideal base for exploring the Isle of Skye. Just outside the town at Torvaig lies Portree Campsite, a dog-friendly camping and motorhome site with 40 hardstanding pitches. It has stunning views of the Isle of Skye looking across to the Cuillin Mountain range and is in an area of low light pollution for beautiful clear skies by night.

Exploring Skye’s highlights is easy from here, with the famous Old Man of Storr just six miles north, via Bride’s Veil Falls. Boat trips to spot dolphins, whales, seals and the iconic white-tailed sea eagle leave from Portree’s harbour.

Another top spot for motorhome campers on Skye is Kinloch Campsite, in the northwest and also in a spectacular lochside setting. It’s in prime position for Skye attractions: on the shore of Loch Dunvegan five minutes’ walk from the shops and cafés of Dunvegan village, and under two miles from Dunvegan Castle & Gardens. Coral Beach is six miles from the site.

Back at base, fishing is available on site and there’s free wifi, as well as extensive information about local events/attractions. Make sure you’re there in time for at least one of the glorious sunsets!

Skye is great for island hopping and this is an excellent campsite for it: a 20-minute drive will land you at Uig, for ferries to North Uist and the Isle of Harris. Getting here is easy too, as Portree is 16.5 miles south.
