Your Guide to Hiring a Campervan or Motorhome for the Isle of Wight Festival 2026

Mia Kourris

The Isle of Wight Festival is back for 2026 with one of its strongest line-ups in years. Lewis Capaldi returns after a two-year break from touring, Calvin Harris brings the Saturday night party, and The Cure play their first UK show of the year. Add in Teddy Swims, Wet Leg, Tom Grennan and more, and you've got four days that are hard to beat.

Here's why a campervan, motorhome or caravan is the smartest way to experience it, and what you need to know to make it happen.

Why a Van at Isle of Wight?

As you're crossing the Solent to get there, it immediately turns the trip into a proper adventure. Once you're on the island, everything slows down. The festival is at Seaclose Park in Newport, with the festival's famous family-friendly, relaxed atmosphere making it one of the most welcoming events on the UK calendar.

A van adds to that. You have your own bed, your own kitchen, your own space to retreat to when the crowds get loud. No queuing for festival showers, no sleeping on thin roll mats. And after the festival? The Isle of Wight has some of the most beautiful coastal scenery in England — Ventnor, The Needles, Ryde — all worth exploring.

Getting There: The Ferry

This is the key practical point for Isle of Wight Festival campervan, motorhome or caravan hirers. You'll need to take a vehicle ferry from the mainland — most commonly from Portsmouth or Lymington. Ferry operators include Wightlink and Red Funnel, and both carry campervans and motorhomes.

  • Book your ferry crossing in advance. Vehicle spaces on festival weekend sailings sell out fast.

  • Check the dimensions of your hired van against the ferry operator's guidelines before booking.

  • Factor in the ferry crossing time when planning your arrival — aim to be at the port well ahead of your sailing.

  • Red Funnel sails Southampton to East Cowes. Wightlink sails Portsmouth to Fishbourne or Lymington to Yarmouth.

It's worth noting that campervan, motorhome or caravan hire pickups are obviously from the mainland — your Camplify owner will be based near you, not on the island. Plan your drive to the ferry port as part of your trip.

Campervan, Motorhome or Caravan Camping at the Festival

The Isle of Wight Festival has a dedicated campervan and motorhome camping area. You'll need a separate vehicle camping ticket in addition to your festival entry pass — book this directly through the festival's official website, and do it early. These sell out before the event.

The campervan field is typically a manageable walk from the main arena. The festival's site maps (available on their website) show the layout in detail.

Extend the Trip

The Isle of Wight is one of the best places in England for a post-festival road trip — even if the island itself limits the driving. Use the campervan as a base to explore:

  • The Needles — iconic chalk stacks and a lighthouse at the western tip of the island

  • Ventnor — a pretty Victorian seaside town with a microclimate mild enough for a beach day

  • Osborne House — Queen Victoria's summer retreat, now a remarkable English Heritage site

  • Shanklin Chine — a dramatic coastal gorge with woodland walks

The whole island is only 23 miles wide, so you can cover a lot of ground in a day. Stay for a night or two after the festival and you'll go home with more than just memories of great music.

Search Van hire near Portsmouth or Southampton on Camplify — look for Festival Ready listings and book your van alongside your ferry crossing.
