The Devon port city of Plymouth is a spectacular destination for a camping holiday. Plymouth city centre, the south Devon coast, the coastal countryside of the South Hams, and the stunning harbour of Plymouth Sound are all easy to reach from Plymouth camping grounds – while a 15-minute drive will take you to Dartmoor National Park, the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Cornwall via the Tamar Bridge.

Perfect for families and open all year, Riverside Caravan Park is also in prime Plymouth position for exploring – the A38 is a hundred yards away and Plymouth city centre within four miles. Located in the Plym Valley, this Plymouth camping and caravanning park is also within easy reach of South Hams beaches, Dartmoor National Park and Cornwall.
There’s plenty to do on site, with a summer swimming pool, an extensive play area with climbing frames and slides, a bar, restaurant and takeaway open from the end of May to mid-September, and a games and TV room. Leave your wheels behind when staying here, as the local bus with a regular direct service into Plymouth City Centre is a level 15-minute stroll along the riverbank.

Plymouth Sound is the English Channel inlet (or “Sound”) near Plymouth, used for centuries as a starting point for journeys around the world. The Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite at the Sound is the place to park up for jaw-dropping views across the water - it is just a few minutes’ drive from the National Marine Aquarium and five miles from Plymouth.
This Plymouth camping spot is also close to the South West Coast Path for scenic walks and the Plym Valley Cycleway for bike rides in beautiful countryside. The park is pet friendly with a dog walk on site and a dog-friendly pub is nearby!

Get out and about easily from this family- and dog-friendly Plymouth camping park, on the A379 Plymouth to Kingsbridge road five miles from Plymouth city centre. The South Hams coast, Plymouth Sound, Dartmoor National Park and miles of peaceful green countryside are ideal trips from this sheltered parkland site.
Staying supplied around Brixton Caravan & Camping Park is easy too, as it’s only a two-minute walk from the village, pub, restaurant, shops and fish and chip shop of Brixton village (a regular bus service passes through the village too). Bovisand and Wembury beaches are both within three miles.

Our fourth Plymouth camping ground is a CL (Caravan and Motorhome Club Certified Location) park exclusively for members, but it’s well worth signing up just to access this site. Home to just five pitches, Drakes View is on a half-acre field with glorious views over Plymouth Sound to the west and Dartmoor National Park to the east, just two miles from the city centre.
A golf club and restaurant is next door: campsite guests are welcome to tee off on the golf course. Slightly further afield, the pubs and cafés of Plymouth Yacht Haven are 1.5 miles away.

5. Bush Farm Wild Camping

Don’t be put off by thinking “wild” camping at this Plymouth camping site means canvas only – Bush Farm caters for tourers as well as tents, all on a peaceful 200-acre farm near Saltash in Cornwall.
This family-friendly wildlife haven by the River Lynher offers 50 touring pitches in its peaceful setting, alongside woodland walks and riverside strolls, lots of space to run around, and barbecues or fire pits to blaze up in the evening. Plus, the farm is dog friendly and dogs stay for free!
For adventures off site, Plymouth is 10 miles away, the Cornwall town of Saltash within five, and attractions like country clubs, spas, golf, karting and a nature reserve all close by around the banks of the River Tamar.
