Is a campervan holiday really as relaxing as everyone says?
In a word: yes. A campervan holiday means total freedom — no fixed hotel bookings, no rigid itineraries. Wake up by the sea, in the countryside or beside a mountain lake. With a fully equipped campervan from Camplify, you have everything you need on board: kitchen, bed, sometimes even a shower. And because you collect directly from the owner, you get personal tips and a vehicle prepared with care.
How much does it cost to hire a campervan in Stirling?
Prices vary by season and vehicle type. On Camplify, you'll find campervans from around £60 per night and motorhomes from around £80 per night. A 12% booking fee (plus VAT) and an owner service fee (typically around £25) are added per booking. Because you're hiring from private owners, you'll often find better value than traditional hire companies.
What driving licence do I need for a campervan?
You'll need a full, valid UK driving licence held for at least 2 years. Category B covers most campervans and motorhomes up to 3,500 kg; larger motorhomes may require C1. Drivers must be aged 25–75. Camplify runs a DVLA check on every hirer before the van goes out on hire.
How does collection work?
Collection is directly from the owner — usually at their home. You'll receive the exact address before the booking, so you can plan whether to arrive by public transport, taxi or your own car. Bring your driving licence to the handover. The owner will walk you through the vehicle and complete a pre-hire checklist together.
Can I take the campervan abroad?
Camplify Flex cover extends to EU countries plus Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. You'll need a VE103 certificate (requested by the owner) and a motor insurance certificate. Check with the owner, arrange your own ferry or Channel Tunnel crossing and make sure the vehicle's tax and MOT are up to date.
What's included in the hire?
Every Camplify booking includes Damage Protection Cover and 24/7 RAC breakdown assistance. Most owners also include bedding, kitchen equipment and camping chairs — check the listing for full details. Fuel, tolls, campsite fees and mileage over 1,000 miles (charged at 45p per mile) are your responsibility.
Can I bring my dog?
Many owners welcome pets — look for the pet-friendly filter when searching. If it's not mentioned, simply message the owner to ask. Some may charge a small cleaning fee.
Campervan, motorhome or caravan — which is right for me?
Campervans are compact and easy to drive — perfect for couples or weekend escapes. Motorhomes offer more space with separate sleeping, cooking and sometimes shower areas — ideal for families. Caravans give you a cosy home-from-home that stays put while you explore by car.
How does booking work on Camplify?
Search for a location and dates, then send a booking request to the owner. Once approved, you pay 25 % to secure the booking — the balance is taken automatically 30 days before your trip (or immediately if you book within 30 days). Arrange collection details through the Camplify messaging system.
What happens if the campervan breaks down?
Every booking includes 24/7 RAC breakdown assistance. Call 0333 202 1872 and quote reference CAMP01 — RAC will arrange roadside recovery at no cost to you. Let the owner know too.
Can someone else drive too?
Yes — additional drivers no longer need a separate Camplify account. They must meet the insurer's eligibility requirements and bring a valid driving licence to the handover. Check the Flex insurance eligibility page for details.
How does insurance work?
Damage Protection Cover is included with every Camplify booking. The standard excess ranges from £500 to £2,000 on Flex bookings, but you can reduce it with a Silver or Gold excess package at checkout.
Where exactly do I pick up the campervan in Stirling?
Collection is directly from the owner — usually at their home in Stirling. You'll receive the exact address before the booking so you can plan whether to arrive by public transport, taxi or your own car.

From Stirling you can reach stunning destinations: in the Scottish Borders ca. 1h, Cairngorms ca. 1.5h, in the Scottish Highlands ca. 1.5h, in the Lake District ca. 2.5h.

Picking up your campervan in Stirling? Take a moment to explore the city first. Before you hit the road, a last wander is well worth it — Stirling has plenty to offer to build the excitement for the journey ahead.
Stirling occupies a position at the geographical heart of Scotland, and it has always punched above its weight. The city sits between the Lowlands and the Highlands, and that borderland quality gives it a distinctive character — neither Glasgow industrial nor Edinburgh refined, but something in between. The Tolbooth on Broad Street, a beautifully restored 18th-century jail, now serves as a music and arts venue. The University of Stirling campus, spread across the Airthrey Estate with its own loch, brings a youthful energy that balances the city's deep historical roots. It is a superb base for a Camplify campervan trip into the Trossachs or further north.
Stirling's food scene draws on the rich farmland of the Forth Valley. The farmers' market at the Albert Halls runs monthly and brings in Perthshire venison, Stirlingshire soft fruit, and artisan bread from local bakers. The Settle Inn on St Mary's Wynd — claimed to be the oldest pub in the city — pours Scottish ales and serves hearty plates. For motorhome provisions, the Cornton Farm Shop on the edge of the city stocks seasonal vegetables, Scottish cheeses, and free-range eggs from farms within a few miles of the city walls.
Stirling's old town climbs steeply from the Forth plain to the castle rock, and the walk up Broad Street, past the Church of the Holy Rude where James VI was crowned, gives you a genuine sense of Scotland's layered history. The castle itself — royal residence of the Stewarts — overlooks the site of the Battle of Bannockburn to the south and the Wallace Monument on Abbey Craig to the northeast. Back Lane and St John Street below the castle preserve their medieval scale, with wynds and closes threading between stone buildings. A morning exploring these streets sets the scene beautifully before heading into the Highlands in your Camplify motorhome.
Ready to go? Collect the keys, set the satnav — and off you go.
The best thing about a campervan holiday: everything you need is right there with you. Most vehicles from private owners on Camplify are fully equipped — often with more care and attention than you'd find from a commercial hire company.
Kitchenette with hob, sink and fridge
Comfortable sleeping areas with bedding or sleeping bag option
Shower and WC (on many models)
Camping chairs, table and awning for outdoors
Many owners in Stirling include extras: a coffee maker, Bluetooth speaker, camping crockery or even a bike rack. Check the listing for full details — or message the owner through the Camplify messaging system.
Many Camplify owners welcome dogs and other pets. Use the pet-friendly filter to find vehicles where your four-legged friend is welcome. Some owners even provide dog bowls and blankets.
Don't worry — most campervans drive just like a large car. Owners give you a thorough handover and are happy to answer questions. Start with a weekend trip to build your confidence before tackling longer routes.
